Hey guys. Football has of course been dominating my thoughts again today and I have been looking at England’s World Cup squads throughout history. We have had some incredible players over the years and here is my ‘Ultimate World Cup 11’. Will of course only feature players to play at a World Cup.

Here goes…

GK – Gordon Banks – Incredible shot stopper and produced ‘that save’ against Pele in 1970.

RB – Gary Neville – Controversial choice here. Many would have gone for George Cohen, but I would take Neville, as in a strong defence he would come into his own.

CB – Bobby Moore – Don’t really need to explain why, do I? One of England’s greatest ever players and the only English captain to lift the World Cup.

CB – Des Walker – Very, very pacey central defender. After the World Cup in Italy in 1990, his stock rose massively.

LB – Ashley Cole – In my opinion the best left back to ever play for England. Great in defence, lightning fast and could deliver a cross too.

MF – Paul Scholes – Hugely underrated in an England shirt and had to make way for the ‘Lampard/Gerrard’ experiment, which ultimately proved to be a waste of time.

MF – Bobby Charlton – England’s record goalscorer. Nuff said!

MF – Paul Gascoigne – One of the countries most naturally gifted footballers of all time. Made skill look easy and you could see how much it meant to him to play for England.

MF – Bryan Robson – Captain Marvel. A career cruelly cut short by a knee injury. Could tackle, pass and score a goal. A wonderful footballer.

FW – Gary Lineker – My favourite player as a kid. Second on the all time list and winner of the golden boot in 1986.

FW – Wayne Rooney – Was thinking of Alan Shearer as well but Rooney has to edge it, as England’s third highest goalscorer.

Very Close – Stanley Matthews, Alan Shearer, Peter Shilton, George Cohen, Kenny Sansom
